Nortel unveils new FMC solutions at CTIA

CTIA Wireless 2008

After yesterday’s raft of news, Nortel followed it up today with more news on day two of CTIA Wireless 2008.  You can see all this news on Nortel’s main press release page, but again here’s a snapshot in case you don’t want to read through all five of today’s press releases:

Nortel announced two new additions to its Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) portfolio for businesses - Mobile Extension Hosted and Mobile Extension Hybrid.  These solutions transform mobile phones into office extensions giving mobile workers access to the same corporate network voice calling features as their desk phones, like internal extension dialing, conferencing and call transferring while consolidating all devices under one business phone number.  You may recall that Nortel announced another FMC solution at VoiceCon, Nortel’s Mobile Unified Communications.

Also today, Nortel introduced several new customers:

  • LG Dacom Meets Explosive Demand for Converged Services with LG-Nortel Solution - After just nine months on the market, LG Dacom, a service provider in South Korea, has attracted more than 300,000 subscribers - and is signing up an additional 5000 subscribers per day - for myLG070, its next-generation fixed and mobile communications service built using VoIP solutions from LG-Nortel, a joint venture of LG Electronics and Nortel. The service allows LG Dacom to deliver a consistent communication experience whether customers use fixed line or wireless networks.
  • Nortel, Arcor Integrate Mobile Phones into Corporate Networks - Arcor, one of Germany’s leading telecommunications companies, will add mobility features to their hosted VoIP Business offering - Central Phone - using Nortel’s Mobile Extension Hosted, a new FMC solution. The solution allows workers to connect mobile phones into their company’s corporate network enabling business travellers to use the same phone functionalities and services wherever they are - whether they use their mobile or desk phone. The new functionality also enables subscribers to be reached on one number, with one common voice mailbox connecting to whichever device is most convenient - fixed line or wireless phone.
  • PalTel Evolves Network with Nortel Solution - Nortel’s IP technology is helping Palestine Telecommunications Company (PalTel), evolve towards a fully converged next-generation network to provide their customers with reliable, high-speed access and inexpensive international calls in the West Bank-Gaza Strip areas. Nortel’s solution allows PalTel to introduce revenue generating SIP-based voice and multimedia services like instant messaging, presence, and video conferencing.
