Nortel announces stance on LTE royalties and IPR

This morning Nortel announced that it had set a competitive handset royalty rate of about one percent (1%) subject to terms for its 3rd party use of its portfolio of LTE standards-essential patents.  In essence, this means that Nortel will would receive 1% of the sales price for any LTE-enabled handsets as a royalty for the use of Nortel’s LTE standards-essential patents and intellectual property (IP).

Yesterday, May 4th, was the 11th annual Tour Nortel charity event in Ottawa. Nortel employees and many others around Ottawa tuned up their bikes, dusted off their roller blades, and set off on scenic courses through the city.
