Some big news for Nortel on the Telepresence front, as Verizon Business has announced that it will offer its customers a managed Telepresence service with Nortel. My fellow Nortel blogger Mark Buford had a post on the news today on our sister blog on hyperconnectivity.com.
In his post, Mark details how the deals combines Verizon Business’s “expansive global private IP network with the global reach and expertise of Nortel’s Multimedia Network Operations Centers (MNOCs)…[giving] Verizon Business a complete telepresence hardware, software, network and services offering for multi-national companies.”

This morning while reading through the press clippings for Nortel, I ran across a new story in the Globe & Mail where Simon Avery focuses on the departure of Nortel CTO John Roese.
I found two things particularly interesting in the article. In the absence of an interview, Simon instead turned to John’s comments on his blog, and specifically from his final blog post at Nortel. Second, Simon included commentary and quotes from you, the blog readers and commenters, and highlighted the “mixed” reaction so far.

Today Nortel issued several press releases highlighting new customers in the Middle East.
One of today’s new customers was the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) in the United Arab Emirates. DFM is the fifth biggest exchange market in the world in capitalization, trading over 105 billion shares in 2007, and with a five fold increase in investors over the last five years. To accommodate this growth, the DFM deployed a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network using the Nortel ERS 8600 and ERS 5520.
Also today, Nortel announced that Dubai Municipality — the 7,000 strong government entity that is responsible for overseeing such services as development and construction; drainage and irrigation; and public health and safety — has deployed a data …
