Nortel names new leaders for APAC region

Nortel today announced that Jackson Wu and François Lançon were taking over as the leaders of the Greater China and Asia Pacific regions respectively. They fill the need created in April 2008 when Michael Pangia - formerly President of a combined Asia region - was appointed to North America as Senior Vice-President, Global Sales Operations and Strategy.

Aside from the new leaders, the obvious change here is the move from having a single APAC (Asia Pacific) leader to having two leaders — one for Greater China and one across the rest of the APAC region.

He Fits the Bill

Today Nortel announced that William “Bill” Nelson was joining the company as our new Executive Vice President of Global Sales. Mike Z called him someone who “understands the important connection between hardware, software and applications in today’s business models.”

But this appointment seems out of character with the string of previous Mike Z senior hires. Did we run out of former GE and Motorola execs to bring on? Or is there something else about Bill Nelson that made him the right guy for the job?
