In the last few posts I have talked about the market transformation with UC and the opportunity, in this post I wanted to talk to how Nortel is planning to develop leadership in the UC space.

Nortel’s goal is to be the vendor who best manages the convergence of communications and applications to create the transformational business value for our customers.  Nortel’s goal is to become a significant market share holder in both the collaboration and Business markets.  Nortel believes that it will achieve greater than 20% share position in the available segments of these markets as they emerge.

Nortel believes that this transformation of how business is done will have a dramatic effect on virtually every industry.   The integration of communications into business processes will change both the way individuals work and how formal business processes are defined.  Nortel is delivering significant technology and partnerships to address both spaces.

Nortel is driving all aspects of UC.  With our partnerships with both Microsoft and IBM we are providing a smooth path from today’s voice solutions to UC that integrates users and collaboration.  In addition, we have partnered with IBM to create the platform to enale integration of communications into the application and process environment.  The Nortel ACE platform is critical to integrating both current communications environments as well as the new UC environments such as OCS and SameTime into the WebServices and SOA applications world.  The ACE platform provides the abstraction that enables applications development to integrate communications events into processes without having to continually invest in the underlying communications integration.

Nortel believes our advantages going forward are in three areas:

·        Open Platforms – The Nortel solutions use open standards and are truly open to enable the integration across a variety of technologies and product from all vendors.

·        Partnerships – Nortel have forged strong partnerships with key industry players and have many more under way that will enable rapid value creation.

·        Nortel ACE – The Nortel ACE platform is significantly differentiated in terms of open interfaces and integration and the capability to deliver rapid value creation through Communications integration.
